December 17, 2008

Of all the places in Manila, Greenbelt would probably be the place I miss the most. After spending two years there because of work, being there made me feel like I was really home. The sounds, sights and smells were all too familiar and it made me smile most of the time. I didn't mind that I was there from 9 in the morning 'til 10 in the evening since there were so many things to do and it allowed me to catch up with my Ayala Museum friends and colleagues, and I even attended a lecture on macrophotography! Later on, I did some exploring at the newly opened wing of Greenbelt 5 and enjoyed dinner with some of my good friends.

Had coffee at the Museum Cafe and listened to music while writing down some thoughts.

I squeezed in a little bit of shopping for myself. A great way to end the amazing day.

Manila, I love you!

Photo from here.

It feels sooo good to be back home. The hustle and bustle, the traffic, the noise, and the overall craziness this city has to offer, oh how I've missed it! Of course, I'm extremely happy that I'll be spending the holidays with my dear family and friends while feasting on delicious food and enjoying the relatively cool December air.

I cannot wait to see my best friends!

I cannot wait to visit my former job and catch up with my former colleagues over lunch!

And of course, I'm really happy to be home with my lovely family. No matter where I am in the world, Manila will always be home to me. It always was and forever will be.

Jack Spade Gift Ideas

2009 Agenda With Reminder Stickers, $28

Admit it, the Moleskine looks a bit bland compared to this humorous Jack Spade agenda. So why not start the coming New Year with a planner that will make you chuckle every time you take it out of your bag? I can relate to the Mr. Zebra as well when I'm on my way to work.

Merino Moustache Gloves, $95

Brave the cold like a man with these unexpected moustache gloves. You'll be getting a lot of funny looks and smiles when you walk down the street while holding your cup of coffee.

Grain Leather I Buy/You Buy Dice Set With Case, $55

The next time a co-worker asks you out to lunch, don't forget to bring this utterly useless but totally cool dice set. And when it's time to pay, you'll figure out that they're not so useless after all. Just hope that it lands on You Buy.

Totes

I picked up this tote yesterday from a random Japanese store for only S$2! What made me really like it was the silhouette of the Eames chair and the random Engrish sentence below that says "Don't forget your moments of happiness". Will probably use this to carry paperwork, magazines, and the occasional sandwich to work.

Another tote bag that caught my attention was this A bag from Alphabet Bags. The letters A-Z are available at £10 each and they'll probably make really great Christmas presents.

A funny observation: Bow ties

It was my friend Frank, a writer in San Francisco, who finally set it straight. When asked about my new look he put down his fork and stared at me for a few moments. "A bow tie announces to the world that you can no longer get an erection."

And that is exactly what a bow tie says. Not that you're powerless, but that you're impotent. People offer to take you home not because you're sexy but because you're sex-less, a neutered cat in need of a good stiff cuddle. This doesn't mean that a bow tie is necessarily wrong for me, just that it's a bit premature. When I explained this to my father, he rolled his eyes. Then he said that I had no personality. "You're a lump."
