A.P.C. Pre-Spring 2013
A.P.C. brings us back to the 1950's with their Pre-Spring 2013 offerings. There is an apparent lightness in this collection, brought about by the crisp fabrics, plentiful use of stripes and smart tailoring. Check out some of my favourite looks below.

Patience Pays Off
Being patient has its rewards, especially when you finally get something you've always wanted. Case in point: The 50/50
Mega Sale recently happened and I picked up a couple pairs of
shoes I've wanted for quite some time at a heavily discounted
price.

| I've always lusted after these Opening Ceremony M6 boots. Every time I'd fly off to Hong Kong, I'd cross my fingers and hope they'd be on sale because the price was way out of my budget. They never were. But during the 50/50 Mega Sale, they were significantly marked down and I didn't even think twice about buying them. |

| These tasseled A.P.C. moccasins from the S/S 2011 collection were also a steal - 70% off! It was the last pair and they were in my size! If I didn't buy them, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. |

| My very good friend Jonathan was recently in town and he gave me this Hong Kong tote bag from Maptote. This was always out of stock at Ka-pok in Hong Kong because I'm guessing it's the perfect souvenir? Well, when he gave it to me, I was delightfully surprised! |

My 2011 Favourites
My Favourite Shoe: Horsebit Loafer
I managed to score A.P.C.'s navy horsebit loafer at 60% off during a sale. Extremely comfortable.
Before the year ended, I treated myself to a Gucci pair. They look even better in person.
My Favourite Vanity Products: Moisturizer and Organic Shampoo
Aesop's Mandarin Facial Hydrating Cream does wonders for my sensitive, combination skin. It's not very thick, but manages to deliver the right amount of moisture.
Intelligent Nutrients' Harmonic Shampoo is more than just a shampoo. You can even use it as a face or body wash! Talk about multi-tasking. It also leaves the most pleasant sensation on your scalp after showering.
My Favourite Discoveries: Muji Sleepwear and Calvin Klein Underwear
Being at home doesn't give you the right to look like a slob. So when I decided to dress better even when I'm just lounging around the house, I went to Muji and purchased heather grey and black t-shirts, as well as a variety of boxer shorts.
Calvin Klein Underwear has the ability to make you feel sexy, even if you aren't. So I hoarded. Enough said.

My Hong Kong Part 2
Simply put, Hong Kong is a shopper's paradise. From cheap, quirky finds, carefully curated one-of-a-kind items, the latest collections from the world's top brands to discounted designer merchandise, Hong Kong pretty much has it all.
Here's a look at some of my go-to places when I'm in town.
By now you all know how much I love A.P.C., so it's always the first stop whenever I'm in Hong Kong. When I was there in April 2011, the staff was feeling extra nice and they gave me a 10 per cent discount! It may not be a lot, but it was still a very nice gesture.
But when I was there about three weeks ago, the boutique on Paterson Street in Causeway Bay was being renovated. I was devastated. But there's always a next time.
When you find yourself in Nathan Road, head to the mall called The One. It houses boutiques such as Beams, Beauty & Youth by United Arrows and Journal Standard. Stock up on clothes, shoes and accessories that are big in Japan.
I.T. Hysan is a must-stop for the latest and greatest in fashion.
Check out the awesome collaboration between I.T. and Mark McNairy. Beautiful, isn't it?
If you want great deals on designer duds, visit Horizon Plaza, which houses high-end department store outlets like Joyce and Lane Crawford (where I scored a leather Comme Des Garcons travel bag at 90 per cent off!), as well as I.T., Emporio Armani, Ralph Lauren and more. You need to be patient though as you'll have to sift through racks and piles of clothes, shoes and accessories before finding a hidden gem. And once you find it, don't let it go.
Citygate Outlets is another must-visit place if you want to score designer items on discount. From Club Monaco, Calvin Klein Underwear, Jack Spade (where I picked up a leather passport holder/wallet) and a gigantic Ralph Lauren shop (I scored a beautiful bengal stripe shirt), you'll surely be spoiled for choice. I don't think anyone can leave this place empty-handed.

How important is customer service...
Particularly in a specialty boutique that sells premium items? In my opinion, it plays a tremendously important role. I'm no expert in customer service or retail practices, but the way a sales associate attends to a customer can either make or break your shopping experience. And in my case, if I find that the service being offered is outstanding, I wouldn't mind spending a little extra just to show my appreciation.
Case in point - the A.P.C. boutique at the Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade in Singapore.
When I visited the newly opened boutique sometime last year, I was greeted by enthusiastic employees, eager to show me around and showcase the latest collection. I was impressed. When I told them I wanted to try on some items, they carried the clothes for me, unbuttoned them carefully and hung them up nicely in the fitting room. In between all of this, I had a decent conversation with the shop manager and we talked about the difference between A.P.C. in Singapore and Hong Kong. To cut this short, the experience left me more than happy so I bought a number of items. To this day, even if I'm only browsing, I am treated with the same enthusiasm I experienced from day one.

As a second example, both Comme Des Garçons boutiques in Singapore and Bangkok know what customer service is all about. The sales associates are more than happy to assist you in any way they can, they try their best to answer your queries and are far from snooty just because they're working for the cult label.
However, there are shop staff who are, sad to say, a total disappointment. It's quite sad that Surrender, which is home to some of my favourite brands like Porter, Mark McNairy, Band of Outsiders and Thom Browne, has terrible customer service. It was so bad that I promised never to purchase anything from that store. Here's what happened:
I visited the boutique for the very first time in their new location at the Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade last year. I was quite excited because I found out that this was the only place I could get a hold of Band of Outsiders in Singapore. When I stepped in, nobody greeted me, even if the shop was totally empty except for three shop staff. Two of them were posted by the Band of Outsiders section so I walked over and picked up a pair of shoes to check out the price. They saw me, but didn't really say anything and continued on with their conversation. Seeing that the shoes didn't have a price tag, I asked one of them how much it was. His answer was a very curt "$350. It's 30 per cent off, but that's the last pair." Before I could even utter a word, he turned his back on me and continued with the conversation he was having with his colleague. I was mortified and left immediately after that.
On my second visit, I wasn't really expecting a welcoming committee. And as expected, a deafening silence greeted me. This time, there was only one shop staff in the empty store and he just stood behind the counter, tinkering away on his laptop. From then on, I never set foot in the store again.
To end this essay of an entry, here's what I have to say: Be nice. There's no room for meanies.

Objects of Desire
I can't explain it, but I am obsessed with this Kitsuné cardigan. Definitely on my to-buy list. The good thing about Kitsuné is that they have a cardigan in every collection, no matter the season.
These Prada shoes from the S/S 2011 collection are beautiful! I've already mentioned before that I like the thick-soled, colourful version, but these tamer ones are a bit more realistic for my wardrobe.
I realised I always put up an A.P.C. bag on my blog from every season, and this one from the latest collection seems perfect. Full leather and in black. I think I want this.
This Comme Des Garçons leather wallet/envelope was supposed to be on my to-buy list for an upcoming Hong Kong trip this April. I figured it would be cheaper there, but when I saw it at the new Singapore CDG boutique yesterday, I had to buy it right away. Good thing I did - it was the last piece! Now I have a decent case for my passport, plane tickets and foreign currency.
